Where to ski on New Year’s Day: discover the destinations

Where to ski on New Year’s Day: the most popular destinations

The winter holidays are, for many of us, a synonym of snow and mountains: but which are the most popular places to ski in New Year’s Day? To best start the New Year in skis or snowboard, you will have to choose the right destination.

The ideal destination for a holiday at high altitude depends on several factors, first of all on the company: you're thinking of going with friends, with your sweetheart or your whole family? Secondly, you should take into account the difficulty of the tracks according to your level of experience. Finally, we need to consider the level of entertainment that a particular location can offer, such as shopping outlets, spas, restaurants, pubs and discos.

3 resorts to ski on New Year’s Day

Despite the countless ski resorts that offer great value in terms of quality of the slopes and entertainment possibilities, here are three perfect destinations to spend a perfect New Year's Day between skiing and having fun.

-Cortina d'Ampezzo. The town of Cortina, nicknamed "Queen of the Dolomites", has always been one of the top destinations to spend New Year’s Day, for its elegant atmosphere and its 140 km of slopes for all levels. After spending the night of December 31 in one of the many fashionable places in this town, you can face the New Year with your skis on, on wide paths with breathtaking views.

-St Moritz. This part of Switzerland is among the most famous ones in the Alps and it offers a wide choice in terms of entertainment. Several New Year’s Eve balls await you in clubs and restaurants for every budget and, in the following days, you can spend some time skiing and snowboarding on perfectly groomed slopes, or opt for a more relaxing thermal path.

-Courmayeur. In Valle D’Aosta you can start the new year by skiing on over 100 km of slopes, which reach up to 2650 meters, and various off-piste routes. This Alpine resort is ideal for a romantic escape on New Year’s Day, but also for a skiing holiday with the entire family.
