For several years now, Switzerland's ski resorts are considered the most beautiful and most expensive in Europe: St. Moritz, Corvatsch, Breuil, Arosa and, of course, Zermatt.
The latter, along with St. Moritz, has always been considered a desired destination for those wanting to combine the beauty of the slopes to a luxurious holiday. Zermatt is amongst the most expensive alpine destinations but this year it will be able to be proud of a new record, of being the best ski resort in Europe.
This important recognition was recently awarded by Mountain Management Consulting, based on an extensive survey conducted in collaboration with the Austrian University of Innsbruck.
The survey, which was developed by the two organisations, took into account 26 criteria including quality and variety of the slopes, landscape, security, entertainment, restaurant services and facilities for families.
Zermatt has excelled by receiving the best result in 8 categories including quality of the slopes, atmosphere, comfort and exclusivity.
The victory was determined by the opinion of 50,000 guests from 55 ski resorts, who decided on the superiority of the Swiss site compared to resorts such as Livigno and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.
Thanks to this award and the early snowfalls that brought a good base formation in the first weeks of November, Zermatt has already opened its facilities. This site's 360 km of slopes are ready for the winter season and to welcome ski and snowboard beginners and experts: in addition to being known for its closure to traffic and, therefore, perfect for families, the resort annually hosts training for some of the biggest National events in alpine skiing.
There are many reasons for visiting Zermatt until March 2017. The only thing left to do is prepare your ski equipment or rent it and then leave to go to this charming site located at the foot of the Matterhorn.
