Although spring officially started on March 22 there has actually been an early taste of summer in recent weeks with high temperatures across much of Europe.
The warmer weather and the approach of the Easter holidays also mean it’s a turning point for winter sports in most Alpine resorts. In fact, after the April 25 we'll be putting away our skis, snowboards and boots and saying goodbye to the 2016/2017 ski season.
To best celebrate this occasion lots of mountain resorts are organising weekend events focused on fun and snow.
- "The Splash Ride" - Aprica. An event held in this Alpine town in the province of Sondrio in Valtellina, combines skiing and swimming. Skiers can, in fact, ski down a piste for free and then dive into a huge swimming pool carved into the snow. The date, for any brave skiers out there, is Saturday 25 March in Campetti area of the complex, for a weekend full of events, including the unmissable staging of the Italian Snow Volleyball Championships.
- "Spring BBQ" - Gressoney-La-Trinité. The Monterosa Ski resort has been mixing sport with a real test of courage for the tenth consecutive year. Following a traditional barbecue, who wants to can try to cross by skis or snowboard an ice-covered pool at the bottom of a slope. When? April 17: definitely a different kind of Easter Monday.
- "Snowland" - Livigno. From 15-20 April the second highest town in Italy is organising an end-of-season festival. There will be lots of activities on offer: from food and wine to enjoy, sporting activities, and music (9 well-known DJs have been invited selected to liven up the evenings). There are lots of different price packages available from the simplest, to a 49 Euro package giving to all events, through to the most exclusive that includes a hotel stay on the slopes, use of the spa, ski passes and access to all events, at a price of €499 a head.
