Tibetan Bridge

Claviere in September: Experience the Longest Tibetan Bridge in Europe

Even during the summer, the Piedmont mountains offer numerous attractions to high altitude lovers. Claviere exemplifies its versatility. A commune of Alta Val di Susa located at an altitude of 1760 metres, Claviere is a key tourist destination both in winter and in summer. While from the end of November to April this alpine station is sought for its 5 chair lifts and state-of-the-art skiing facilities, during the summer months other activities render it a destination that is not to be missed. Claviere is perfect for those who love high altitude biking or trekking and diving into breath-taking landscapes but also for those who seek shopping destinations thanks to its many boutiques. For mountain, sport and adventure lovers, this Piedmont municipality also boasts a distinctive Tibetan bridge that is the longest in Europe: above the gorge of San Gervasio one may travel 478 metres to 30 metres high, suspended on steel ropes.Specifically, the route includes three bridges that are linked by a path although the more sporty types can use the ferry. The latter allows one to approach the mountain in a different way and, in its simplest version, lasts an hour and thirty minutes. Those interested can test it out during September over the weekend departing from 9am to 4:30pm. However, bear in mind that in the event of bad weather, the Tibetan bridge will remain closed and that, due to the high turnout at the weekend, one often has to wait a couple of hours before embarking on the journey. The experience costs 15 euros for adults and 10 euros for children up to 14 years old (with a minimum height of 120cm). The price includes entrance and rent of compulsory equipment such as a jib, helmet and a climbing kit with heat-sink. Moreover, beginners need not worry because they will be assisted in preparing by careful and trained staff. It is also mandatory for experts to attend a briefing lasting between 15 and 20 minutes prior to departure, during which the basic rules for crossing the bridge and the main safety rules will be explained. After walking at an altitude of 30 metres, it will finally be time for a stop at a local restaurant for refreshments and to enjoy wine and food specialties from the valley. Therefore, during the final days of summer, Claviere is the ideal destination for families and mountain lovers of all ages to spend time at high altitudes with sports and nature!
